The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Sports Management program received high national rankings by the Educational Resource Guide for 2022. USM’s Masters of Sports Management program is ranked # #21 nationally, while the online sports management masters program achieved a #17 ranking.

The Sports Management program at USM is housed within the College of Business and Economic Development. The curriculum of the program is designed to enable students to acquire and demonstrate a set of management skills and an understanding of sports industry issues through a combination of core courses required in business, courses specific to the sports management and experiential components.

Students will have the opportunity to work and participate in experiential learning with organizations such as Southern Miss Athletics, Biloxi Shuckers, Mississippi Braves, Sanderson Farms Championship, Landmark Event Services, Aramark, Swetman Security Services, and the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security.

There are currently over 120 students enrolled in USM’s undergraduate sports management program and approximately 100 enrolled in the graduate program. Dr. Chris Croft, assistant professor of sports management, notes that the program has increased student enrollment in each of the past four years.

A Globe Newswire article (2021) indicates that the sports market forecast for 2025 is expected to reach approximately $600 billion with an additional $226 billion by 2030.”

Dr. Brandon Allen, assistant professor of sports management and director of the program, notes that prospective students use Internet search engines to locate the best sports management programs in the country.

“As these students browse and research our program at USM, they note that the price is reasonable, academic course load is comparable to other institutions, time to graduation is flexible based on need of students and graduate students succeed in acquiring the sport. management jobs. » uses a tiered formula to rank sports management programs online.
