The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) online sports management master’s program has been recognized as one of the best in the nation in rankings published by two online resource guides.

Top Accredited Colleges rank the USM program at #2 nationally, while gives USM a #6 ranking.

“The online sports management graduate program has seen tremendous growth since 2018. Part of the growth can be attributed to these various online grading services,” said Dr. Brandon Allen, assistant professor and director of the USM sports management program. “While there are many sports management programs across the country, I am honored that we are continually rated as one of the best. I believe these rankings are directly related to the leadership of our college and the outstanding teachers in our program.

Students who enjoy sports and want to further develop their leadership and business skills may consider earning a master’s degree in sports management. This field helps provide students with the leadership and business administration skills needed to work in a variety of positions within the sports industry.

USM’s recognition comes at a time when enrollment in master’s programs is on the rise. In October 2021, the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) reported a 7.3% increase in first-time graduate student enrollment in fall 2020. Part-time first-time student enrollment increased increased by 13.5%. The CGS report cites the growth of online and blended learning options as a key driver of these trends.

“We are extremely pleased that the Sport Management Program has grown in enrollment and reputation over the past few years. The program does a tremendous job of providing students with applied projects and experiential learning opportunities that help prepare our graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the sports industry,” said Dr. Bret Becton, dean of USM’s College of Business and Economics.
