Twenty-eight CSD winter sports athletes win all-state academic awards

Work hard, play hard. This is how student-athletes in the Canyons District approach their studies and competitions. For proof, look no further than the number of seniors from Alta, Brighton, Corner Canyon, Hillcrest and Jordan high schools who earned all-state academic honors for the 2021-22 winter sports season.

Twenty-eight students representing the five traditional high schools in the Canyons School District receive the Utah High School Activities Association’s prestigious Academic Excellence Award in exercise, swimming, girls’ and boys’ hoops, and wrestling.

This brings to 63 the number of student-athletes who received Academic All-State Awards this school year.

For approximately three decades, the UHSAA has granted this special recognition to senior athletes who have excelled academically while performing and competing at elite levels.

All-State Academic Scholarships are awarded to students who have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 or who achieve an index score that takes into account a student’s grades and college entrance exam results. A student with a 3.9 GPA, for example, would also need to score 30 or higher on the ACT to qualify.

Congratulations to our 2022 winners for winter sports. All-state academic winners in drama, debate and music, which are considered winter activities, will be announced at a later date.
