Sport Management Club raises $45,000 at 17th charity auction
The Sport Management Club has raised $45,000 for the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation following its 17th annual charity auction.
At the SU men’s basketball game on November 20, fans bid on items such as sports memorabilia, electronics, jewelry, gift baskets, travel and event tickets major athletes. An online auction was also held from November 20-27 and featured hundreds of items up for sale.
The SPM Club is a student-run organization in Falk College’s Department of Sports Management. Since its founding in 2005, the club has raised over $613,000 for local charities. Previous recipients of the club’s annual charity auction include Boys and Girls Clubs, Golisano Children’s Hospital, CNY’s Ronald McDonald House Charities, Central New York SPCA, Upstate Cancer Center, Special Olympics New York, CNY Food Bank, Salvation Army. , Rescue Mission Alliance, American Diabetes Association, Make A Wish CNY, Meals on Wheels and McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center.
“Our Sport Management Club was founded on the principles of teaching our members the value of civic engagement, community service and social responsibility through sport,” says Rhonda S. Endowed Professor Michael Veley. Falk and director of sports management, who also serves as the organization’s educational advisor. “The countless hours of dedication of these students to ensure that the proceeds of our charity auction benefit our community through the Boeheim Foundation are extremely gratifying.”
