Southern Miss Sport Management partners with Biloxi Shuckers

The University of Southern Mississippi Sports Management graduate sports marketing class partnered with the Biloxi Shuckers organization on a promotional project during the fall 2021 semester. The collaboration allowed students to help organization into future sports marketing planning ideas.

Dr. Chris Croft, assistant professor of sports management, worked with Hunter Reed, general manager of the Biloxi Shuckers, and Dustin Fishman, sales and marketing coordinator.

“We are focused on incorporating experiential learning opportunities for our students to enable real-world learning opportunities while contributing to business organizations in the region. It was an exceptional learning experience for our students to be able to apply the sports marketing content from our class and develop sports marketing ideas for the Shuckers,” Croft said.

Fishman provided an overview of the Shuckers’ background, recent changes in Minor League Baseball (MiLB), and the organization’s needs for future planning for the 2022 season. group to come up with promotional ideas for the home games of the 2022 season.

“The Shuckers organization was delighted to be working with Dr Croft and the Southern Miss Sport Management program again. I believe this is a great partnership that is mutually beneficial to both parties as the students gain real experience with a club professional sportsperson and we benefit from additional marketing assistance during our planning stages,” said Reed.
