The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Sports Management Program recently partnered with Andy Frain Services to provide students with hands-on sports safety experience during the Ole Miss vs. University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last month.
The opportunity was offered to current students by recent USM alumnus Tyler Jacobs (MSc in Sports Management, 2021) who currently holds a position in domestic sporting events.
“When I was a student in the sports management program, I constantly heard about alumni giving back and giving current students opportunities to participate and experience different aspects of the industry, and when I got my degree, I knew I wanted to be able to offer the same,” Jacobs said. “It was great to be able to partner with the program and give current students a quick glimpse of what Andy Frain does. Services and the opportunities it offers. I know it was great on our end and I hope it was just as great for the students.”
Dr. Brandon Allen, Director of USM’s Sports Management Program, said, “The faculty is always on the lookout for opportunities that provide our students with ‘real world’ experiences in the sports industry. We appreciate Andy Frain Services for providing transportation, training and the opportunity to work in such an incredible college football environment (over 100,000 fans).
Allen added: “Sports management students received specialized training in security checkpoints, bag checks, metal detector screenings and perimeter control. I am extremely proud of our SM faculty for their willingness to work alongside our students, sacrificing their weekends, for the benefit of our students and our program.”
