How HPU helped you get there: “I learned so much at HPU, and the Office of Career and Professional Development helped me grow so much. I learned how to develop my CV, prepare for interviews and much more! The courses I took helped to strengthen my communication, writing and presentation skills. All the courses I have taken have made me a complete person! When I started figuring out which graduate school was right for me, I went to my career counselor Brandon Floyd for help. He was wonderful in helping me determine which Masters program was the best option for me. I encourage students to take full advantage of their desktop right from the start!

Most Impactful Mentor at HPU: “Brandon Floyd, Associate Director of Career and Professional Development, and HPU alumnus Mikaela Campbell were critical to my success at HPU. I met with Mr. Floyd to work on things such as my resume , my LinkedIn profile, and graduate school applications. I met Mikaela Campbell through the HPU Sports Management Association. Mikaela works in the NBA, and having her as a mentor taught me not to never be afraid to take the opportunities that seem out of reach and never to give up. With Brandon and Mikaela I was able to talk about what’s going on at school or just life in general. They were so supportive and helpful, and I’m so grateful to have met them!”

Most memorable moment at HPU: “My first impactful moment was heading to the NCAA Tournament in San Antonio, Texas in 2021 as manager of the HPU women’s basketball team. The team had recently won its first conference tournament, and I was so excited to see them experience it. My excitement grew even higher when I got to go with them to the tournament in Texas! My second highlight was volunteering at the 2022 NCAA Women’s Tournament. had the unique opportunity to meet Dawn Staley, the legendary former star of Team USA and current head coach of the South Carolina women’s basketball team. I heard about this opportunity through to my sports management professor, Dr. Jenny Lukow.

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “The inspiring environment at HPU allowed me to meet so many amazing teachers and students! The people at HPU are always so supportive and encouraging. It really made me realize how many amazing people I have in my corner.

What life skills did HPU help you develop that set you up for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop organizational, critical thinking and communication skills. Before college, I was extremely shy, so taking classes that required me to present and speak helped me grow. My course assignments made me think on a deeper level and course management helped me develop my organizational skills. These life skills have prepared me for the journey I am about to embark on in graduate school! »

What are the values and virtues that the HPU campus has helped you develop and that you will take with you after graduation? “The hands-on approach to learning has been helpful in my HPU career. I wasn’t always sitting in classrooms listening to lectures, and I was able to apply what I learned from those classes.

Hints for subclasses: “College is a big adjustment, but don’t worry, there are so many people out there who want to help you out and see you succeed! When making friends and getting to know people, networking is key! You will probably hear this many times, but it really is something that can take you further than you ever imagined.
